Did you know Walmart has these snack packs? Was very excited when I discovered them last weekend. With amazing self-control, I only bought one. With even more phenomenal self-control, I left it unopened till I took photos.
The husband and I were disgusted, however, to find that the nutella compartment is hollowed out. False advertising, that's what this packaging is.
Actually, now that I think of it, I'm not sure it's morally right for nutella to come with with some kind of extra side snack. Purists (i.e. me) shouldn't need dipping sticks to enjoy nutella. Or even a spoon. Here's a snack pack from Singapore to illustrate what I mean. See?
It's just pure nutella. Either we use fingers or other body parts to extract the good stuff, or we set it out in the sun and then drink it in its molten form, use an IV drip, or vaporize it and breathe it in.

Similar snack packs were sold in France when I was a child - both the type with the little crackers/bread sticks and the pure nutella ones. Although most of the "pure" nutella ones were half some white substance that didn't have any chocolate (or hazelnuts, I believe?) in it at all!
ReplyDeleteMy cousin is visiting, and we just introduced his wife to nutella last night =) She has three (plus one due next month) children, lives in 850 square feet, and had never tried it! How has she survive this long?! ;)

outrageous marketing! We can't send the kids to school with nutella because of the nuts - breaks their little hearts.
ReplyDeleteWe have those snack-sized packs here in Australia, too - lots of kids have them in their lunchboxes as a treat! My favourite are the cartoon-themed glasses you can buy filled with Nutella and a stretchy plastic lid. When I have a lot of thinking/finishing to do, I always have one of these nearby with a teaspoon! And our glass drawer is full of empties!

ReplyDeletewhich nutella recipe do they serve up in the US? there are at least two different vrsions in Europe: the stuff they sell in German speaking countries (and Italy i think) = the original, very nutty and not too sweet; then there is the French recipe, sold in France and GB (really oily, very sweet and not very nutty). bleugh! just saying....

Pam, it's basically chocolate and hazelnuts. The texture is not unlike peanut butter and many people use it in much the same way.
ReplyDeleteA Nutella croissant does sound good! But my favorite way to eat it is on crepes.
I have to tell you about the drink I discovered/created at large chain coffee place with the mermaid on the sign!! (catch what I am saying? :) )
ReplyDeleteI got a Non Fat Iced Mocha and asked them to add the sugar free Hazel Nut syrup to it. OMGoodness!! It was like Nutella in a glass!!! I bet it would be even more heavenly warmed!
My lovely sister just gifted me with a large padded envelope full of single size Nutella packets, straight up....along with a vintage, made in Manitowoc, Wisconsin aluminum Christmas tree....is she the bomb, or what???
