Denial

It was minus 10 F (-23 C) yesterday.
How else to cope?
I made a swimsuit, naturally.
What - were you thinking of another winter hat?
Mittens? Wool coat?
Pah. That would be surrendering.
Surrendering is for cowards!
Cowards do not live in Minnesota!
(Masochists, maybe, but not cowards!)

This week, I needed to work on something other than bags, so I made Emily a replacement swimsuit. Last year's still fits but the fabric has faded and thinned out. She wanted her new one to be exactly the same design so I just used last year's pattern and added inches in whichever dimension I thought she'd grown.

Now to find someplace warm to wear this.
That isn't just in our secret February fantasies, I mean.

  1. Love it! So cheerful with the flowers on it. And I think you are totally right. We just have to force Spring into action. I am sure it will help! :-)

  3. Amen to that! We're in Ohio. :o) Could you tell me where you purchase your fabric...I have 3 girls and 2 boys that need swimsuits and I was told 4 way stretch lycra was best. What about Chloroban? Thanks!

    1. bountiful blessings: This one was from JoAnn but they have a very limited selection (this was the ONLY one in the store, and it was in the clearance section). Do you have Mill End Textiles in Ohio? That's where I buy my swimsuit fabric in general - they have lots of prints and solids to coordinate. Otherwise, try Chez Ami online - a bit pricey but at least it's over the internet, and the prints are pretty and modern.

  4. I love your denial piece, up here we are in the midst of complete denial too. Even the weather doesn't know it's winter, it rained hard for a whole day before it turned back to freezing, nostrils together, weather.
It will be a comforting thought when it does get warm and she gets to wear to the pool, though. All things are temporary.

    1. Megan: This particular one was from JoAnn's clearance section. Believe it or not, it was the ONLY swimsuit fabric in the entire store. Fortunately it wasn't hideous.

  6. Oh, yay! It's adorable! Made me shiver, though. I hope you find a warm place for her to wear it. An indoor pool perhaps? Maybe you should plan a trip to Singapore... now that would be fun, right? And WARM!!

    I'm wondering what she's giggling about. :)

  7. My sister always says when we visit her in Minnesota, " it's not normally this cold."

  8. I'm from Minnesota too and I can definitely sympathize with your denial.. Yesterday I made a sundress for a family wedding in July and a picnic blanket!

  9. Ugh -- I don't even want to think about temperatures that low! The 20s and 30s we've had lately were more than enough for me.

That's a seriously adorable swimsuit! Any chance there's an indoor water park nearby that she can wear it at? :-)
