Fairytale: Prologue

Some weeks ago, Emily turned nine.
It's just ridiculous, how fast children grow up. I mean, one moment they're drooling all over the fronts of their onesies and the next they're creating wish lists on amazon for their birthdays. Before I know it, my children will be graduating from college and sewing their wedding dresses and I'll still not have made a dent in all the unsewn toys and clothes I've planned for them. Someone has to find a way to slow time down! Grrrr!

Anyway, we had a birthday party.

After discussing and discarding no fewer than
ten different themes, I might add.

Finally, Emily decided on this one. Fairytales, she wanted.

"What - like princesses and stuff?" I asked, incredulous. Hasn't this theme been done to death? Sooo disappointing.

But, no, she wanted fairytales. Because she loves books and clues and adventures and heroines and danger and suspense and riddles and quests and daring rescues and happy endings.

"No princesses and dress-up and ball gowns and royal weddings and all that jazz?"
"Nope."

Oh, okay.
Let's write that fairytale.

And turn that into a party.

We kept it a secret for months (Emily's idea).
And now we're thrilled to be able to share it with you.
You might want to hold on to your socks, though -
it's going to be quite a ride.
