Help! A Quick Poll

Hello readers!

I need your help today. I know it's two days to Christmas Eve and all, and everyone's up to their nostrils in gift wrap and visiting relatives and yule logs, but could I please trouble you to take a quick minute to give me some ideas?

Here's the scenario: let's suppose, hypothetically, that you could have one (or ten) ikatbag project as a craft kit to make at home, which would you pick?

Now, this could be a sewing kit, or a wood kit, or a cardboard kit, or anything else. Don't worry about the cost for now, or the size of the item - pretend that there are no restrictions other than the exclusion of licensed characters (so, no, I am deeply sorry but we cannot make kits of Maisy character dolls for your Maisy-worshipping toddlers). Don't think too hard about this, and don't waste your precious advent time scrolling through my archives (unless you want to)- just shout out, off the top of your head, ideas that have made an impression on you and that you think would be lovely as a craft kit. Some examples:
  • projects I have made in the past on the blog that you wish you could make yourself if only you had all the materials and didn't have to cut out the fiddly pieces yourself.
  • projects I have not yet made but that you saw somewhere else and thought you'd love to make at home with an ikatbag spin.
  • a pattern that you wish also came as a kit so you didn't have cut the pieces out yourself.
  • a pattern that you wish also came as a kit because the materials are very hard to find.

I have kind of a short deadline on this, so leave your ideas in the comments as soon as you can, okay? I appreciate your thoughts! Thank you!

  1. The wooden bake shop, the Faraway tree set or any of the wooden play sets. Love them all but the wooden parts are hard to source in Australia or the shipping cost are exorbitant!

  2. I think kits for making Owie Dolls would be brilliant. I would definitely consider making one if I didn't have to spend weeks finding the right fabric for the bodies, good felt, coloured velcro etc.

Also, for some reason I've always wanted to make a Magic Faraway Tree (complete with wooden peg dolls). A kit with the cardboard for the tree, and wooden peg blanks, paints etc would be excellent.

  3. The Toadstool House with Fairies. I've made two, and getting ALL the bits is a project in itself! Several of the more fiddly wooden ones I would never make unless there was a kit, because I've never done wood and don't know much about it, so it's intimidating. Oh, and anything with LEDs and electricity!

  4. Cupcakery! All of the wooden food, in fact. Also, peg dolls and doll house:(with lights! )

  5. Looking at blog post titles to see what jogs my memory... my favorites are the drafting posts, which aren't relevant, but I loved the marker pouches from May of this year and the fiber optic lights from more recently. I also liked the lunch buckets, though I haven't refound the post on them. For me it's typically less the cutting or availability of materials and more the fact that for a small item I would have to buy several times the amount needed.

  6. That super cool standy-up Pencil Case thingy! That'd be amazing!!

  7. The wooden cookies, donuts, cakes, pies, etc. With pies to make tiered trays.

  8. Everything to do with the bunnies!

  9. Wooden food! Felt foot! Stand-up pencil case!.... Umm.... Ooh! That garden thingimabob!

  10. Definitely the super cool standy-up Pencil Case thingy. Thanks Ostinato Seaker, I couldn't remember what it was called. :-)

  11. Also, mama pig and her piglets or the vegetable garden would be great

    ReplyDelete
  12. Rapunzel's Hair. That would be a cool kit.
The lighting in the cardboard doll houses would be cool but can't imagine you putting together cardboard kits with lights.
Reading above comments, I know the bake shop cupcakes were a hit. Any of your wood toys.

  13. The peg people and a template for the big cardboard treehouse. Or the painted doughnut set.

    ReplyDelete
  14. A complete Bunny kit (patterns/fabric for the bunny, clothes, bed, food, etc), or any of your felt foods in kits (patterns, fabric, matching thread, any beads or ribbon needed, etc).

  15. Electronic things! The fiberoptic night lights, or (even better) a cardboard doll house with a doorbell and lights, anything like that where I can't just use what's in my scrap pile and can't just run to my little small town hardware store to pick up supplies on a whim.

    1. I second this!! A mini kit for say, lighting a cardboard tunnel, a cardboard dollhouse (love the doorbell idea!) or lighting a decor project would be great! I can do lots of the felt and wood and cardboard myself but the electronics fascinates and terrifies me and I would so love to not wind up with bunches of leftovers when I just want to add the pizzazz to one little project!

    2. I definitley second the electronics!

  16. A farmyard animal kit that folds up into a bag and folds out into a farm/field with a fence, pond etc for the cows/pigs what ever farm animals.

  17. I think some of your felt stuffed play sets would make a great kit. I'm thinking of the decorated cookie/donuts, fruits, vegetables. Of course, it would come with a cardboard kit to make the garden or bakery facade to then grow/sell the products :)

I also love some of your party ideas and would think that a party kit would be amazing too. Way too detailed (because you're so awesome), but a pared down version of one of the parties you've profiled on the blog would be something I think people would pay for.

There's a ton of other stuff as well.

I know I've been waiting for a pattern for the fairytale doll TENT!! A kit with fabric, tent poles, sleeping bag pieces cut out, etc. would be super fun as well.

  18. felt food. felt food! All of yours is wonderful and amazing.

  20. I'm obsessed with everything to do with the bunnies and the doughnut (or maybe it was cookies) bake set.

  23. Hi!
    Hard to choose, isn't it?
I'd say the toadstool house and fairies. They're amazing!
And seconds would be the Owie dolls, as Katie M said, finding the fabric can be a challenge in itself!

    But definitely toadstool house first!

    Happy festive season!

  24. Owie dolls or the stand up pencil case.

  25. If I were buying a kit it would probably be for a child, so I suggest:

-Bunny, with fluffy material to make the bunny (not plain polar fleece, since it gets ratty when used for stuffed animals) and several clothing options.
-dolls with clothes, with the doll pieces cut out and ready to be stitched by small hands. Maybe include a started needle and thread, so a grandparent could quickly buy a kit and know everything that's needed is in there (except scissors).

  26. A cupcake kit! Or other sewn/fiber food kit.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The cardboard dollshouse with lighting kit, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese xxx

    ReplyDelete
  28. Chicken and pig.

I have the chicken pattern but haven't made it yet. If it had been a kit I would have a chicken by now.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The wooden bake shop! I am wanting to make it for a long time now, but could never find the time to buy all this tiny wooden bits in the right shapes...

    ReplyDelete
  30. The owie dolls for sure. I have been looking for the right fabric off on for years. I would buy that kit in a heartbeat.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I recently saw Elsa and Anna made as a Topsy Turvy/Flip Doll. Those were sold I guess at the Walt Disney World Stores. I know you can't make those, but I've searched for a well explained pattern for that type doll for a long time. I am sure you could do a great job on instructions to make something like that. (OR, maybe you have and I've missed it)

    ReplyDelete
  32. First things that come to mind are all the felt food including the pizza and the stand up pencil case.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Felt donuts, stand up marker holder, soft dolls, paper cup light, nurse dress up, wood bakeshop, round lunch tote. I commented already, but I think it didn't post right.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Butterfly Wings cape fleece thingie, I have it pinned and saved in my email and will be making it for ME one day.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I love all of the things! Um, kit wise, I would LOVE to see the felt food (including the cupcakes and the doughnuts)!! All of your ideas are amazing, and cute! :)

  36. Felt food. Wooden food. The flower garden.

  37. toadstool house with fairies!

  38. Stand up marker thing!
    And the pigs and chickens.
    Owie dolls too.
    Hmm...
And the mermaid dolls from that party!

    ReplyDelete
  39. The faraway tree. Or any of the play food, particularly the wooden food.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Bow/arrow/carrier

    Merry Christmas,
    Missum

  41. Felt food, felt garden, or lunch bucket/bags

    ReplyDelete
  42. I actually ditto a lot of the previous nominations, but this time of the year, I wish I could get your spin on the Christmas craft, in a kit if you so wish to explore. I'd love to see you develop a table-top nativity scene with fabric(felt OK but not as desirable as woven) complete with manger and star.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Owie dolls, because finding the right fabric for those intimidates me!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Owie Dolls, Bunny Family and I like the comment on the Nativity set!

    ReplyDelete
  45. The owie doll, felt food and everything about bunny (including bunny). Anything, actually!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Cardboard kits (I hate cutting cardboard) especially the doll house, and wood kits (hard to assemble and work on all the bits) especially food, and felt food

    ReplyDelete
  47. Better marker pouch, the cute beginning-of-school-year-toys you make for your daughters, your cardboard treehouse, cardboard train (or was it a car?) with LEDs. I love all of your projects! :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. I've loved all your projects! In terms of kits- the felt food especially the donuts for a donut loving grand daughter. The bunny family, loved the recent bunny coat. Party kits, we recently did a detective birthday party with your ideas. The science birthday party generated a science classroom project with the fiber optic lamps. Getting all the supplies takes time. The class of 3rd graders loved it. Thank you for all the time you take with your posts and endeavors. We are so privileged that you share with your readers.

    ReplyDelete
  49. ANYTHING from your site, LiEr! I think the wood kits would have the widest appeal, because they don't require sewing and there are still people out there who are terrified of sewing.

    ReplyDelete
  50. It's either the hot dogs or clothes for animals like bunny all over the world. Pleeeaaase show us how to dress these lovely creatures, preferably those who are 33cms (and have a Merry Christmas!)

    ReplyDelete
  51. The electric bits for lighting up houses and things. What they said about the Nativity set would be awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Wooden peg family as a complete kit, simple straight sewing costumes for preschool girls with the fabric pieces included (we don't have the breadth of fabric choice here).

    Thanks and Merry Christmas, Andrea

    ReplyDelete
  53. Felt food as a whole kit - because I'd definitely rather have you cutting all those pieces. :) Your dolls, and def the bunny family. I think there were some dolls you did recently too. I like the nativity idea as well someone mentioned.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I love all the felt food

    ReplyDelete
  55. I love your science projects. I would love to see those as complete kits.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I would love a kit to make or give that is a 3'x3" felt or fabric circle or square with grommets around the edge through you thread paracord and pull up into a toy tote which you can lay on floor upon which to play then pull up with the toys inside to tote and store. There could be snap or hook-n-loop pockets inside to store little pieces (doll shoes, mini cars, things like that).

    ReplyDelete
  57. Any of your houses, felt food, bunnies… I love all your projects, I think you have really wonderful ideas and marvelous hands to give life to them.
    Merry Christmas¡¡

    ReplyDelete
  58. Got to be bunnies and anything bunny related.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Pigs and chickens are awesome! I would love to see more animals like them, too.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I actually planned in posting about the cardboard tree house, but after reading the comments all I can say is if you make kits, I'm in!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. The toadstool and fairies!
    The felt donuts.
    The stand up pencil case.
    The fairytale dolls.
    The owie dolls.
The adventure doll's tent that never came to life.
    Thank you for asking :-)
and Merry Christmas to you and your wonderful family.

  65. Another vote for bunnies, carrots etc. I am building fiber optic lights today and tomorrow with my 1st grader (gifts for Dad, Grandma and aunt and uncle brown- from him). We are using a 10" paper mache cone from Ben Franklin as the housing and taping the batteries inside. Using a large snap as the on/off switch. I would have purchased kits with all the pieces for this.
Another thought is all items for a birthday party, from decorations, party favors and activity.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Pink mummy pig with suckling babies. Think there was also a chicken along a similar vein?

    ReplyDelete
  67. The first project that drew me to your blog was the magnetic bakery. Love it, but recognize how time consuming it must have been to construct.

    ReplyDelete
  68. My tiny girls are really into pretend food. I made about a million felt donuts (ok maybe not quite that many). I would love to make more felt food without having to personally go out and find all the different colors myself.

    ReplyDelete
  69. The Cupcake Night Light Please . . .

    ReplyDelete
  70. Practically anything from here.... but especially Owie dolls and the Faraway Tree, or you could do birthday party kits.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Definitely The Little Blue House - that would not be possible for most of us to make without a kit...and even being a non-sewer (I've ended up with mostly cardboard and no-sew toys) I will get onto sewing if a kit for it is available!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I would pick any of your dolls- the owie dolls, or any of the various ones you've made for your girls' birthday parties, with all their changeable aspects and clothing, for example, mermaid tails and princess clothes or various career clothes. Or perhaps your various incarnations of play food and accessories.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Pig and chickens would be great! Felt food (maybe a donut stand or bakery?) would be another possibility, or perhaps the lunch buckets with interesting novelty fabrics for the middle band.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Baby Bunnies, with their clothes, totes and house XD They are adorable

    1. Little Bo-Peep. I do a free community Mother Goose class -- rhymes, songs and musical games -- and have wanted to make my own Bo-Peep since I saw it on your blog. But time and getting it all together -- a kit could be the answer! Also the Mother Hen with chicks would be great for the rhyme "Chook, Chook, Chook ... Good morning, Mrs. Hen."
