Birthday.Party.Hello.Kitty.
There is so much pink that I can't think straight. I'm convinced I am allergic to pink. Was in JoAnn Fabrics yesterday and was appalled at how many shades of pink exist in the universe. Gave up halfway and came home without buying what I needed because I was overwhelmed and my brain shut down. Also their pink cotton (ptooey! Pink AND cotton - ptooey!) was not on sale and it is against my principles to buy pink cotton unless it is heavily discounted or on clearance or there is a gun to my head. Tomorrow I'm going to Mill End to buy vast amounts of (discounted) pink fabric. OK, 1 yard. Which is a vast amount in that color. My good friend Eunice, who is the world's foremost authority on all things Japanese/cute/girly/whatever seriously confided some years ago that Hello Kitty was originally not pink - all her accessories and embellishments were red. Somehow that doesn't help much.
I think I remember Hello Kitty being red, not pink. There's definitely something about Hello Kitty and four-year-olds - we just went to a Hello Kitty bday party two weeks ago. Thankfully my daughter hasn't caught on yet, maybe the trend will be out in 6/7 months when she turns four? Right now she's all about butterflies, and I really hope it lasts!
ReplyDeleteDealing with that much pink has to be love. The things moms do for their children. Can't wait to see the photos. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm feelin' the sympathy for you! We had a Hello Kitty party last year. We even ended up with -gasp- a bakery-bought birthday cake in order to get the licensed character. We got our plates & cups from Target (they might still have them) and luckily the background colors were more rainbow than straight pink.
ReplyDeleteMaybe just do black & white, with a pop of hot pink here and there?
Heeeeee....... and I thought that I was the ONLY mother of little girls who HATES pink! I never wore pink as a child (from the time I could make my own clothing choices on) and have not dressed either of my girls in it. I was always a tomboy and have dressed my girls in comfortable clothing. My 4 year old who has always loved red, has shown some recent propensity for pink and dresses (groan). Luckily the little bit (3yrs) still loves her green but I fear she will follow her sister and we will soon be swimming in pink! Good luck on the birthday party prep; I'll keep my eye out for red Hello Kitty....
ReplyDeleteOh come on. Pink is so wonderful. It is such a happy color and you can't help but to smile. Flamingos, flowers, piggies are all pink. But, yes, you are correct, Hello Kitty was red when I was little and I loved her more that way.
ReplyDeleteGood luck at the store and maybe bring some Pepto Bismol, which of course is very pink, with you. :)
They must get it from their dad's line, because it's showing up over here, too. Dds #1 and #2 think they must have pink swimsuits, pink dresses, pink hats, so they don't completely appreciate what I make for them.
ReplyDeleteAnd it was definitely red. I have two (I hate to say it) 'vintage' items from my childhood that are red.
I feel for you! I felt like retching imagining what you are going through :S (can't stand Hello Kitty nor pink)
ReplyDeleteNo advice for you except to commiserate in communion and to say' "Hang in there!"
The title tells it all, what a wonderful mom you are!
ReplyDeleteduuuuuuuude please tell me you're up for a baking challenge?! Bakerella made some awesome cake pops, http://bakerella.blogspot.com/2009/02/here-kitty-kitty.html
ReplyDeleteAAAAh my internet connection goes sketchy for a few days, and I look up and you've opened an etsy shop?!?!
ReplyDeleteWOOT! Awesome! So exciting! You are going to sell a bazillion things! And I love your graphics!
And don't think of it as pink. Think of it as the color of an intestinal tract. Does that make it less cutesy?
