I am not those people.
My stuff runs into the months, sometimes (oh the shame) decades. I have a gorgeous - if I may say so myself, because it is not pink - column gown in light blue-almost-turquoise lace that I made 20 years ago that still needs a hem job and has all its basting stitches still in. Can't wear it now, obviously. Can't even get the zipper up a couple inches. I'll probably gift it to one of the girls and hope they'll make it a prom dress. In about 10 years I'll tell them, "Hey, who's too lazy to sew her own prom dress? Hem this one and you get to wear it to your prom!" And then hope one of them -the one who doesn't mind wearing Mother's Old Frock - takes the bait.
and so run-after-small-children casual with jeans.
Mostly, I like it because it is finished. Hooooooooray.

But here I present my 2928 - Hour Tunic!
Or the 175, 680 - minute Kurta!
Caaaaaaatchy.
Caaaaaaatchy.
Yes, this is the one I massacred with my wing needle. The first garment to come from my sloper, and the last off the needle. Useless.
But finally finished! Took me about 4 months. So long that it now hangs looser than it did when I first cut it out in May. I think my body is still changing from having had babies. I thought I was done shrinking, but my shoulders and rib cage had other plans.
I hand-running-stitched over the massacred bits - they really are awful - and now they are happily hidden.

And just in time for fall, when I'm sort of ready to be in longer sleeves.
Thought I'd better share photos because I am so relieved that it is finally in a wearable state. And also thought you'd like to see how the embroidery eventually turned out, after all your comments and suggestions.
I like this for many reasons - that it is yellow and grey and white; that it is linen; that it is not printed; that it is subtle; that it looks so dressy with grey pin-stripe pants

P.S. 404 lazy daisy stitches. I know what you're all going to say, so I'll say it first - you're not sure which is insaner- that there are so many of them, or that I counted. Welcome to my world.
Beautiful :) I love the color combination. And, I am so with you on the WIP's that last for decades...hello red prom dress from (cough) still needing a zipper and hem. (I am so donating that thing this week! or throwing it out, anything - it just needs to leave *grin*) Then I switched up my hobbies *grin* and started knitting. With yarn, you can rip it all out, and no one will ever know. :) With fabric, once its cut, well, it can only get smaller. After 3 kids here, only some things went smaller, others went a bit larger. It's been 4 years, and I'm still feeling like I'm adjusting to the new 'me'. *grin* Thats ok, though. Someday I'll have clothes that don't have the first priority of wash and wear. :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely more insane that you counted them. I really love this tunic, and I will forever admire 2928-hour clothing because the time and care really does show.
ReplyDeleteGreat Job!!! I love the colors and all the tiny daisy stiches!
ReplyDeleteYou must call that lace dress "vintage" ok?
ReplyDeleteYour tunic is GORGEOUS!!!! I'm so impressed! I adore it for all the reasons you do, especially the color combo. Wish I could wear that butter yellow.
It's beautiful.. You're such an inspiration and thank you so much for the posts on drafting.. I've printed it out.. and hopefully one day be adventurous enough to actually give it a try.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful!! Much nicer then any 1-hour thing and you look lovely in it. Hooray for finished projects!
ReplyDeleteLovely detail!
ReplyDeletebeautiful. classic. tailored just for you. and expertly made. there is a HUGE difference between this garment and the 45 minute sundresses, and you should be proud.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful and it suits you. Much better to see it on you than in your hands with an embroidery needle.
ReplyDeleteYea! Gorgeous. I love yellow, but can't wear it. Will have to live vicariously through this.
ReplyDeleteOh, and count me in as "more insane that you counted" although honestly? I would have too. :)
Just had to say that the tunic is amazing. It fits you so well, and the embroidery is exquisite.
ReplyDeleteJust lovely. I think it's great that you counted the stitches-- it sounds like something I would do :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. :) Enjoy the fruits of your labor!
ReplyDeletewow. you look amamzing in it, so subtle and elegant.
ReplyDeleteIt is perfectly lovely, as are you! (Although, if parts of you are shrinking I am a bit worried about your Nutella consumption. Should we increase dosage?)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful as ever and I love the new blog banner!
ReplyDeleteL, it turned out so nice! And you look so lovely!!!
ReplyDeleteAlso, love your new header - so cute. ...Do those 15 lazy daisies count in the 404 total? : )
I think I really like with the jeans! great work- and I also love your new header!
ReplyDeleteooh yay!!! I love it. I love that I know what you look like now too, hatchacha!!!! :P
ReplyDeleteBeautiful top! I'm still waiting for a skirt my mom started for me when I was 9 years old. All she has to do is finish the waist and 24 years later I'm still waiting!
ReplyDeleteWow, so many stitches! I envy your patience - the embroidery looks very lovely. :)
ReplyDeleteI love it! I was trying to dream up something similar for a linen blouse that I made. I ended up making the blouse sans embroidery (because I needed the blouse done!), but I planned on making it with embroidery the next time. I LOVE your embroidery!
ReplyDeleteThis is just wonderful!!
ReplyDelete...and remember, since you were brave enough to start with such a light color, you can always overdye it with icing dyes if it gets stained in some disastrous manner from running after your girls.
(Can you tell that I am a mother of 4 girls, myself??) :)
