Yes, that's right. Because I can.
Have you seen Katie's Matsutake 2012 Awards? They're genius, like Katie herself. Go see them, and then give yourself an award. I picked this one because it sums up my low-aiming goals for each day. I'm not saying I made dinner last night, even. I'm saying sometime last week - or maybe it was last month - there might have been a non-takeout pizza, actual meal made in my kitchen.
And -let's face it - we all have those days. Mine seem to happen every time I am working on some craft thing. I usually make peace with myself by announcing that "cooking repetitive meals using cream of mushroom soup is not my especial gift". But Katie has brought a sense of solidarity to this slowly-freaking-out-on-my-own existence, so I salute her back with this award,
along with the rest of you guys! For reading my blog, for sending me cardboard box sources, for not saying I'm a bad mother because I stayed up several nights in a row reading the Hunger Games books, for telling people about me on your blogs, while simultaneously omitting the words "raving lunatic", for making me laugh and smile and sew things I would ordinarily never dream of sewing, like ruffles.
P.S. Katie, I didn't get any top mom craft blog awards, either. Didn't you read the fine print? They said we had to be sane.
P.P.S. Did you notice it's dinner time now and I'm blogging instead of cooking?
Ha! What are you procrastinating on now by writing this post instead? ;) I claim your award!!
ReplyDeleteToo cute! That made me laugh. I'll go check it out (^_^)
ReplyDeleteWhat did you think of the Hunger Games?
ReplyDeleteThree things:
Delete1 What I wouldn't give to spend a day with Cinna, talking shop.
2 I need Gale to come trap the darned rabbits that have been eating the tips off all our new flowers in the garden.
3 I need to hire Peeta to do all the birthday cakes for my kids' parties so I can work on just the cardboard stuff. I'll even pay him in cardboard toys.
You?
OK, on a less frivolous note, I don't know what I THOUGHT about it as much as what I FELT about it. Compelling. I mean, I stayed up to read them, when I usually would be sewing or something. I'm still feeling them days later. I'm sure part of it is the intensity of reading the entire series in one sitting, as opposed to, say, Harry Potter (7 years) or Narnia (forgot how many years).
DeleteYes, compelling for sure! Once I got past the fear that someone would die every time I turned the page. I had to remind myself that it's a trilogy so someone must live! I think I started the final book on Christmas Eve and then finished it Christmas morning. I felt the ending was a bit of a let down but very "real life" vs. fairy tale. I'm interested to see if the movie will end the same way.
DeleteYes, compelling for sure! I started the last book on Christmas Eve & finished it on Christmas morning. Once I got past my fear they were all going to die (come on Laura, it's a trilogy, obviously someone makes it past book one) I was hooked. I was a bit disappointed in the ending; I guess a fairy tale/"happily ever after" ending would have been unrealistic but I kept hoping! I'm interested to see how the movie series will end.
DeleteSorry about the double post - I thought the first got lost in cyberspace so I wrote it again. Feel free to delete one!
DeleteGood mothers sometimes read right through dinner, saying things like, "Have some cereal. Then you can have ice cream for dessert, but eat an apple first." This teaches children two important life lessons: self sufficiency and a love of reading. Three: the importance of eating fresh fruit. Three important lessons without even glancing up!
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha! "Eat an apple first" is exactly what we say in our house! Sometimes it's pears. But that's always the bargaining chip - fruit, anyway.
DeleteI love you, LiEr! You are AWESOME! And your hair is sooooo shiny!
ReplyDeleteLove the nutella award you are soooo inventive!! :)
ReplyDeleteBetter than nutella... hahaha! I'm not sure anything is better than nutella.
ReplyDeleteThank you for making me smile :D
